Motorcycles and scooters
Driving license category A2 is the next level of a motorcycle driver's licence. This permits you to operate mopeds and small motorcycles up to 50cc. The course is designed to allow you to slowly ascend the ladder of engine power, and then ponder the possibility of a bigger one. The test is more difficult than that of the first category, and you need to attend more theory lessons to prepare.
The category A2 driver's licence is valid until the age of 24. It can be used in conjunction with a car driving licence category A1 or as part of a provisional category B driver's license. If you are over 24 years, however, the full category B driving license is required to drive motorcycles that exceed 35 kW.
You can get your group A1 license at 16 years old (in Denmark, Malta, and Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic as well as in Germany, Hungary, Iceland and in the following countries: Latvia, Lithuania, Italy and Poland). When you reach the age of 16, you will need to take the A2 category motorbike test. You need to pass the test before reaching the age of 18. After two years, you are able to move to category A.
After passing the test in category A2, you are able to drive a motorcycle with or without a sidecar as well as vehicles on three wheels that have a power of up to 35 kW. These vehicles must also have a weight/power ratio of no greater than 0.2 kg/kW and must not be built from a vehicle with twice the power of the maximum.
If you have completed the two-part test for a moped or a motorcycle that is lower in class from the 1st July 1996, you are able to bypass the theory test and only take the practice test. You can either take a small scooter or moped fitted with L plates, or get the new AM license which permits you to ride bikes with a capacity of up to 50cc, with a maximum speed of 45mph. The AM licence will only be valid if you have taken the test in your theory and have completed nine hours of training, divided into theory and practical instruction at driving schools.
Motor vehicles with 4 wheels
This category covers all motor vehicles with four wheels that aren't buses or passenger cars. This category also includes utility vehicles such as pickups, vans and panels. Included are campers, motor homes and trucks. This category also includes vehicles such as ambulances, hearses and carryalls that are designed to transport more than eight people or have a maximum authorised mass of 750kg. Drivers who have obtained an A1 licence may drive vehicles of this type with trailers that have a maximum authorised mass of up to 750kg.
You must have passed the theory exam to be able to drive a car in this category. You must pass 12 90-minute classes on the basic material, and 4 90-minute lessons on the additive (category AA2). The test for the theory requires an 80% minimum score percent.
After passing the theory test you will have to take a road test exam on both private and public roads. If you pass both of these, you will be issued a request for a driving license. The request for a license must be submitted to the local authority within three years after passing the practical test.
After passing your driving test, you can begin to drive vehicles of the category A2. In some countries, once you have a full A1 license for two years, there's no requirement to take another test to earn an A2 driving licence, which allows you to drive motorcycles with up to 35 kW. This lets you gain experience with less powerful two-wheelers before upgrading to more powerful machines.
If you hold a category A2 driving licence, you can also drive tricycles if it has an engine capacity of up to 125cc and an output of not more than 11kW. This category was formerly part of the A license. All drivers who received a full category A licence before 19th January 2013 were able to ride mopeds and keep that right.
Motor vehicles with 5 or more wheels
This category includes vehicles with motors that are designed to be used on roads for transport of passengers or goods. They must have at least two or three wheels in contact with the ground as well as a saddle or seat for the driver and passenger, and an engine that can produce speeds of 20 miles per hour or more. These vehicles come with brakes as well as a steering wheel. They can also be controlled and can be driven in reverse. In some instances, the hood of these vehicles can be opened. This designation was historically used for trucks (vans, minivans, panel, pickups, sport utility vehicles) and buses that carry more than 16 passengers. A slightly different definition is employed by the federal government, which regulates uniform licensing standards for drivers of commercial vehicles. This definition excludes vehicles with a weight of 26,001 pounds gross weight or more.

Motor vehicles with trailers

This requires knowledge of special regulations for the transportation of dangerous products.
